OUR STUDIO

Fosbery Studio is a small team of designers, craftspeople and engineers, making contemporary decorative lighting here in our studio workshop in Kent. We are proud to make with traditional craft techniques ensuring that quality is at the heart of all of our work.

Our heritage

In 2017 our founder, Daniel Fosbery, moved from North London to the seaside town of Folkestone in search of more space to produce beautiful decorative lighting that he was proud to put his name to. After a successful career working as a bespoke lighting designer for a luxury lighting company, he co-founded the lampshade manufacturer, Copper & Silk in 2011, which he later became sole owner of in 2018. In this time the company grew an enviable reputation for quality and customer service, with lampshades appearing in Harrods, Cruise ships and many luxury homes.

Today the Studio benefits from the diverse range of skills collected by Daniel over the past 15+ years as well as traditional hand stitching and tailoring led by Katrin, a trained tailor and textile artist of over 20 years' experience. We are proud of our mix of skills and use of both traditional and modern manufacturing techniques, which have enabled us to produce innovative designs in a mix of media.

Responsible design

Reducing our impact on the environment is as important as the designs themselves. We make quality lights, designed to last and be loved. All of our fabrics are 100% natural, no polyester or plastics. Brass has long been used in quality lighting and hardware and we continue with this tradition. It has remarkable longevity and is infinitely recyclable. We regularly recycle our old components at a local salvage yard, even down to the shavings we collect from sawing and drilling. All packaging is 100% paper, with all boxes made from 70% recycled card, FSC approved. Our wooden designs are made from sycamore, a fast-growing versatile tree that is 100% sustainable with responsible forestry management. We work locally and make our lampshades and lighting in our studio. All our main suppliers are within 200 miles, reducing the carbon footprint of our products further and we dispatch through our carbon neutral courier, DPD. We know we aren’t there yet and will continue to design with the entire life cycle of our designs at the forefront of their development, to help you to make better choices without costing the earth.
